SCHOLARS AND HONORS PROGRAM
Scholars and Honors Program
St. Vincent Ferrer Scholars/Honors Program is based in the Dominican tradition of study, community, prayer and service. This program provides an academically rigorous curriculum to top ranking students and will prepare them for future academic challenges and allow them to contribute to society as our future leaders. Since its inception in 2001, our Scholars/Honors have attended such schools as Barnard, Columbia, Dartmouth, NYU, University of Virginia, Yale, and others. Our Scholars/Honors have won National Merit scholarships and commendations and been honored for their level of achievement in AP Biology, AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, AP English Literature, AP US History, and AP Spanish Language.
Scholars Program
The Ferrer Scholars Program is designed to meet the special needs and demands of intellectually gifted students in an ethnically diverse, culturally rich school. We recognize that the academically gifted student needs to be challenged in a way which matches her talents. They will interact with a diverse and enthusiastic group of like-minded young women who think its “OK to be smart”.
- Academically: Scholars will be required to take Honors or AP level courses in English, Math and Science and 2 years of Latin.
- Culturally: Scholars will be introduced to great art, music and great human creativity to enrich.
- Service: Scholars will learn how volunteering and giving back can expand their horizons.
- Financially: Scholars will receive a scholarship valued at $6,500, renewable for four years.
Selection Qualifications:
- Student is ranked among the top in academics in her 8th grade graduating class.
- Student scores above the 90% on the TACHS examination and is accepted as a finalist after completing an administration interview.
- Student’s 6th, 7th, and 8th grade academic record and conduct are exemplary and consistent.
- Student receives the recommendation of her 8th grade teacher.
Scholars Program Renewal:
- Student must maintain an overall 94% weighted average in academic classes at the end of the year.
- Student must participate in the Scholars Program Curriculum.
- Student must complete 10 hours of a school approved community service program each year beyond her class requirements for service.
- Student must graduate with an Advanced Regents Diploma.
- Student must maintain an exemplary behavior record and be in full compliance with the Ferrer Student Handbook.

Honors Program
The Honors Program is a status awarded as in incentive to students who qualify and maintain the high standards expected of them. It recognizes young women who are talented and challenges them to extend beyond themselves to share their gifts with others.
- Academically: Honors Students will be required to take one Honors or AP level course in English, Math and Science each year.
- Culturally: Honors Students will be introduced to great art, music and great human creativity to enrich.
- Service: Scholars will learn how volunteering and giving back can expand their horizons.
- Financially: Honors Students will receive a scholarship valued at $2,000, renewable for four years.
Selection Qualification:
- Student scores in the upper quartile in the TACHS examination.
- Student’s 6th, 7th, and 8th grade academic record and conduct are exemplary and consistent.
- Student receives the recommendation of her 8th grade teacher
Honors Program Renewal:
- Student must maintain an overall 88% grade point average in academic classes.
- Student must take at least one honor course per year.
- Student must attend three enrichment honors seminars per year.
- Student must complete 10 hours of a school approved community service program each year beyond her class requirements for service.
- Student must graduate with an Advanced Regents Diploma.
- Student must conduct her behavior in compliance with the Student Handbook
